Shitposts Weekly
Medium articles neither rare nor well-done for the week ending 18th February 2022.
Do Not Fall in Love with a Smart, Introverted Man: An ROI has bad romantic advice and a lot of stereotypes about autistic people. Introversion and extroversion are myths; everyone has their own specific tolerance for social interactions. Some people have a lot of tolerance, some people have very little.
6 Brain Damaging Habits You May Want to Quit: An ROI lets out a long, wet fart about “bad habits”. I use quotes here because absolutely nothing of value is here.
6 Programming Languages You Should Not Learn: An ROI lets rip a long, wet fart about programming languages. The most offensive opinion here is that people should learn JavaScript instead of—yes, you heard that right, instead of—HTML and CSS. Almost as bad is suggesting Ruby instead of C/C++. (Or Rust, but let’s not go there.)
There Will Never be a Creator Middle Class and Why That’s Good: A capitalist has opinions about creators and income. Left unexamined is why class should even be part of the discussion.
Stepmother Criticized for Leaving 5-Year-Old Home Alone Without Babysitter: An ROI sends more hounds baying after a parent. When children can be left alone varies based on the child and how the child’s parents raised them. Children as young as 6 routinely walk to school on their own outside of the US, for example. At some point we as a society need to start trusting kids, and too many people are more than happy to wrap their children in bubbles until they graduate high school, and sometimes beyond. This is especially common with disabled children.
Rare articles which are well-done.
Why Your Brain Needs Boundaries: A pysch journalist looks at event boundaries (e.g. the ‘doorway effect’).
No One Wants Your Metaverse: A journalist rejects the kool-aid.
